NYC PROTEST OVER PARIS CLIMATE PULLOUT
Hundreds of New Yorkers rallied in Foley Square and Marched to NY City Hall today against Trump's decision to pull out of the
Paris Climate Agreement?
Hundreds turned out for the last minute event in New York to Protest
Trump’s Decision to Pull U.S. out of Paris Climate Accord Today.
Pulling out of the Paris Agreement will set back
global climate leadership and condemn Americans to increasingly devastating
climate impacts, poorer health outcomes, and loss of jobs and prosperity -
which affect the poor, communities of color, and Indigenous people first and
worst.
Scientists have estimated that that 80% of known fossil fuel deposits
would need to remain in the ground in order to meet the Agreement’s target of
keeping the earth’s temperature to less than 2 degrees Celsius above
pre-industrial temperatures.
Organizers say they will work to ensure that New
York move into national leadership in transitioning from fossil fuels towards
an 100% clean energy economy that works for everyone.
They will call on
Governor Cuomo, Mayor DeBlasio, and Comptroller Stringer to step up actions to
reduce carbon emissions and to divest New York State and New York City pension
funds from the fossil fuel industry that controls the White House. And they
will call on all New Yorkers to resist the administration’s efforts to
undermine federal policies that protect our air, water, and climate.
